    Did you know?

  • *In the past two years, retail, entertainment, and other Web sites catering to consumers have been the fastest growing category on the Web.
  • *Studies showed that online retail orders were up over 270% from the year before and that the average sale had increased from 55.50 to 60.00. shows that both men and women are turning to the Internet in increasing numbers; 21 percent of those with internet access said they plan to make purchases online compared to only 11 percent last year.
  • * Recent studies also show that the acceptance of on-line shopping is dramatically increasing. Industry analysts predict huge growth in on-line sales in the next 3 years as more and more consumers find their way to the Internet. Today, one-fourth of households are currently online; by 2003, half of US households will be online.

With figures like this it is clear to see that you need to have your business or service on the Internet.

Why should I be on the web?

    Read on...

Recent media reports on Internet usage and e-commerce confirm that the online shopping has seriously increased. British companies are not lagging as far behind their competitors as we would like to think. We are increasingly finding that foreign companies are taking business from right under our noses. Do you want this to happen to you?

Imagine a "best case" scenario:

Picture a company with a virtual monopoly in it's US or even a Global market. Perhaps this is your company, but perhaps you aren't so fortunate. Do you have any serious competition?

This extremely lucky company stands still and waits, ignorantly thinking their market is safe. How long before a competitor from overseas decides to implement an Internet marketing/sales strategy?

Potentially, threats can come from anywhere; the US, Europe, Canada, the UK, the Far East, or even parts of the newly emerging markets of Eastern Europe. Does this company have no competition?

With an Internet marketing or sales channel, transaction costs are lower than a dedicated sales team. Customers order products and provide information using a business or consumer web site without ever tying up an expensive salesperson. If transaction costs reduce, so can the price of the products. When a company begins selling via the Internet, they can pass cost savings on to their customers without affecting their profit margin. This improves sales in general, ultimately at the cost of competitors (you?).

If a product can be shipped, your competition can come from anywhere. All it takes is an attractively priced product, similar in quality, backed by a decent customer service policy.

If a competitor has these things, they are half way towards stealing your trade.

Now consider a slightly more realistic scenario:

The company in question has numerous competitors, many of them actively looking at the Internet as an opportunity to increase sales, reduce costs, gather marketing information and provide 24 hour support to their customers. Consider the whole globe as a source of competitors!

If you aren't making progress with the Internet now, you WILL be left behind.

With millions of users (and growing by many thousands daily), the Internet is currently the largest market available. For incredibly small amounts of money (in comparison to "traditional" marketing means), you have the power to deliver your marketing message to a great many of these millions. Does that sound like an opportunity, and a market, which you should be ignoring? Let's hope not!
