What is Upload and Download?
Uploading - This is the opposite of downloading. With uploading, you take a file from your computer and send it to a computer on the internet (or a server). Usually this is done with an FTP client, but some web sites you'll come across will allow you to send files to them with your web browser.
Downloading - This is moving a file that's on the Internet onto your computer. For most of us, downloading is just a matter of clicking a download link on a web site and saving the file to disk.
What format do I supply my content in?
Logos should be scalable formats where possible (EPS) - or Photoshop and hi-resolution TIFF files.
Text (non-table) should be in MS Word, plain text (Notepad/WordPad etc).
Tabular text and forms can be supplied in MS Word or MS Excel format.
We have copies of Corel and Lotus in the office - just so we can accept files in these formats - we may not have the latest version of these tools in-house, and conversion to our preferred formats may involve additional billable time.
What is Installing?
Installing - This is often confused with downloading. When you install something, you basically "put" the program on your computer so you can use it. Normally this is done via a setup program to make installation easy.
What is a FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. A protocol which allows users on a computer to transfer files to another computer.
What is a DNS server?
The Domain Name System converts machine names to IP addresses. The mapping is done from name to address and address to name. The difference between just plain hosts IP mapping and Domain mapping is that DNS uses a hierarchichal naming standard.
How does a DNS server work?
Depending on who is doing the talking, DNS can mean either domain name server or domain name system. Although it has two definitions both of them have the same meaning. Each translation of DNS stands for the designation where information will be stored, or for a database of internet names and addresses that allow information to be routed from one place to another. The ultimate destination of any internet request is an IP address, but remembering an address like 12.178.176.233 for most people is difficult so they use an address like www.WebYourBusiness.com. The DNS will then act as a translator to the server and translate that into the desired IP Address. You can visit any site by typing in either but you will finder quicker results by typing in the actual IP address because they don’t have to go through the DNS. But the DNS has the advantage since you can change the IP address and not affect millions of users.

A server is a computer (Usually high-end, "Faster, Bigger") that allows computers in a network to have a shared resource.
What is Email?
Electronic-mail or Email is the process of sending messages electronically using your computer.

Spam is unsolicited e-mail pushing a point. Be it an ad for a used PC, or an urge to vote on a proposition.
What is Spyware?
Computer software that obtains information from a user's computer without the user's knowledge or consent.
Why do I need a server?
A person needs a server so that there is a computer hosting the website 24/7, also with a internet connection fast enough to have multiple users access the site at once.
